Meet Blackbeard, the newest tree spirit at The Inn by Sea Island on St. Simons Island! Legend has it that Blackbeard roamed the Georgia coast in the early 1700s—and that his buried treasure still exists, waiting to be found.
In the 1980s, a local artist decided to make their mark on St. Simons Island, carving about 20 faces into the island’s famous oak trees. Each unique face is hand-carved, taking the artist between two and four days to complete.
